Bookkeeping charges greatly range from bookkeeper to bookkeeper. This is because there are so many variables between bookkeepers and the services they offer. These include:

Qualifications - Some bookkeepers are more qualified than others. Some aren’t qualified at all. Higher qualified bookkeepers generally charge more.

Experience - A more experienced bookkeeper will also charge more. Experience speaks for itself. I suggest getting a bookkeeper who is both experienced and qualified.

Location - Bookkeeping businesses based in cities may charge more than rural ones because their overheads (rent, wages, etc.) are higher. Many rural bookkeeping practices are home-based, which also helps their charges.

Depth of Service - Customers often require different levels of service. Some businesses require a bookkeeper for data entry purposes only, while other businesses will need one to reconcile bank accounts, process wages, and file VAT returns. The depth of the service obviously impacts cost.

Software - Some bookkeepers will provide accounting software. Some will not.

HOW MUCH SHOULD A BOOKKEEPER COST?

As stated above, there are many reasons why prices fluctuate from bookkeeper to bookkeeper. So, it is tough to provide a clear answer. However, I can let you know our prices as a guide:

Bookkeeping, including managing sales and expenses, and reconciling the bank account(s) - our prices start from £35 per month for the smallest businesses.

VAT Services - Our prices vary depending on the size of the business and the amount of work involved. However, most clients pay around £125 per quarter, including the quarter's bookkeeping.

HOW MUCH DOES A BOOKKEEPER COST PER MONTH?

Using the above as a guide, simply divide the charge by months:

Small businesses - £35 per month

VAT Services, including bookkeeping - £41.65 per month
